About Jamie Talks
I’m Jamie Mackenzie, a trauma-informed public speaker based in Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire, and I travel across the UK delivering talks that help professionals understand the human reality behind childhood trauma and safeguarding. My work is shaped by my own lived experience growing up inside systems that should have protected me. Now, I use my voice to bring clarity, understanding and emotional truth into professional spaces where it’s needed most.

My methods
I speak openly about the impact of trauma, not for shock value, but to show what professionals often don’t see — the silence, the fear, the behaviour, the coping mechanisms and the moments where safeguarding either fails or succeeds. My aim is to help police officers, teachers, NHS staff, social workers and frontline teams recognise what trauma actually looks like and how to respond in a way that is safe, empathic and informed.
My approach is simple: honest storytelling with real professional relevance. I don’t sugar-coat my experiences, and I don’t speak in theory. Everything I share comes from lived reality, supported by trauma-informed understanding that professionals can take straight into their work.
Purpose After Pain is exactly that — turning the hardest parts of my past into something that protects others. Whether I’m delivering a keynote, a training session or a school workshop, I show audiences how trauma shapes behaviour, why disclosure isn’t simple, and how a trauma-aware response can genuinely change someone’s life.
I work with organisations nationwide and I’m available for conferences, roadshows, PD days, safeguarding events, youth work settings and education environments, both in person and online.
If you’d like to book me or request my speaker pack, I’d love to hear from you.
